The level of awareness of Mohua MenzShed within the Golden Bay community, and the generous support received, has been amazing. It is unlikely that this MenzShed could have achieved as much as it has without that support – so that you all.

As a non-profit charity providing an enjoyable environment in which men of a certain age from around Mohua Golden Bay can gather and make themselves useful, Mohua MenzShed depends on the generosity of individuals, community organisations, trust funds, government, National Lottery, and other funders for the support needed to maintain and grow our MenzShed.

The list below includes just a few of the many organisations and groups within, and without, Golden Bay who have supported us so generously with donations, equipment, material, and in other ways.

RATA Foundation

The Rata Foundation generously donated $7,000 in late 2005 to enable the purchase of a 6.3m shipping container. This will be used for timber and other storage.

Network Tasman Trust

When the decision was made to source an AED for Mohua MenzShed, given the age of most members and the potential for an unexpected need, Network Tasman Trust was quick to come up with the funds requested. These, with further specific funding by Golden Bay’s Rural Services Centre, and some private donations, allowed a quality AED with a secure container to be purchased and mounted externally, where it could also be available to the local community.

Goodness2Go, Takaka

Cheryl and Ian of Goodness2Go have been strong supporters of Mohua MenzShed since moving into the shed. They have attended every car boot sale making delicious coffee and hot drinks available in all weathers, as well as donating vouchers as prizes and providing excellent food when needed.

Golden Bay Air

We are fortunate to have the support of Golden Bay Air, Golden Bay’s own airline offering scheduled services to Wellington and Nelson, as well as air tours and facilitating Great Walk arrangements. Golden Bay Air can arrange all your air and road transport needs to walk the Heaphy or Abel Tasman Great Walks, ensuring you can fully enjoy these amazing walks, picking you up in Wellington, Nelson or locally in Golden Bay.

Hammer Hardware, Takaka

Golden Bay’s Hammer Hardware on Commercial Street has supported the establishment of Mohua MenzShed since the earliest days. Offering discounts when necessary equipment and materials have been needed, as well as making generous credit donations.

PGG Wrightson, Takaka

PGG Wrightson have offered to support the establishment and development of Mohua MenzShed in any way they can. The store got off to a great start by contacting Agrippa Paints who came up with a very generous offer on the paint needed to repaint the Scout Den exterior.

Agrippa Paints, Christchurch

Agrippa Paints, a family-owned and managed business creating durable interior and exterior paint for NZ buildings, have supported Mohua MenzShed with sufficient paint to transform the tired old Scout Den into the MenzShed. Thank you.

Bunnings, Nelson

Bunnings Nelson and Bunnings New Zealand have been very generous in not only filling a rather large tool chest for us with much useful stuff, but have also persuaded PPG paints to support us with free paint for the redecoration of the interior.

Golden Bay Property Services

Many thanks indeed to Tony and Fiona of Golden Bay Property Services, who gave our new premises such an excellent power wash in readiness for repainting.

Tasman District Council

TDC have given significant support from the beginning. This has included assistance with searching for and securing permanent premises, providing work such as building picnic tables and planter boxes, as well as a Community Grant.

The Girdlers Company

Many thanks to The Girdlers Company Charitable Trust of London for the very generous donation received. It has come at the perfect moment, just as Mohua MenzShed are about to move into their own premises. This amazing Livery Company received its Charter from Edward III in 1327, 700 years ago. Mohua MenzShed is honoured, and grateful, to be recognised by their membership.

Tākaka Trash Palace

The wonderful team at Trash Palace, who freely give so generously of their time to keep this wonderful outlet open, are equally generous with their support, as they have been to many other institutions around Golden Bay.

Rural Services Centre

With their generous donation the Mohua MenzShed was able to buy a new carpenter’s workbench in 2003. In 2005 a further generous donation of $1,000 completed the funding needed for Mohua MenzShed to purchase an AED with secure container, thus of benefit not only for MenzShed members, but also the surrounding community.

Tākaka ITM

Continue to support the MenzShed with specialised support and project materials.

Pupu Hydro Society

This Society has been generous with donations, as well as providing project work for the members, restoring historical artefacts. In September 2024 Pupu Hydro generously donated funds to cover the cost of re-wiring the newly acquired Scout Den – now the Mohua MenzShed. A further generous donation was received in 2005 towards the shed renovation.

Golden Bay Quilters

These amazing, skilled ladies have supported the MenzShed with a donation.

And many others

Including Golden Bay Promotions Association, Zentech who donated between them a working computer for use at the MenzShed. These are just two of several individuals and businesses who have generously given redundant but useful equipment and materials.
